"I can't do anything today."
Kaito said weakly. In the corner of the classroom, he was slumped over his desk.
Hiyori approached. "Kaito-kun, are you okay?"
"I'm not okay," Kaito answered honestly. "But that's what's wrong."
Sora asked. "Wrong?"
"I have to always be energetic. I have to recover," Kaito continued. "But today, I can't."
Hiyori sat down gently. "Who said you have to always be energetic?"
Kaito thought. "Everyone... no, myself?"
Sora opened the notebook. "That might be a harmful belief."
"Harmful?"
"Yes. The idea that 'you should always be strong' is not psychologically healthy."
Hiyori supplemented. "Humans are not machines. There are good days and bad days."
Kaito said weakly. "But isn't inability to recover a weakness?"
"No," Sora asserted. "Acknowledging days you can't recover is rather strength."
"The courage to know and accept your limits."
Hiyori gave an example. "Would you keep running on a broken leg?"
"I wouldn't," Kaito answered. "It would get worse."
"The heart is the same," Hiyori said. "Forcing a wounded heart makes it worse."
Sora supplemented. "Resilience, or recovery ability, is not about bouncing back immediately."
"It's about resting appropriately and recovering."
Kaito listened quietly.
"People with high resilience aren't those who recover quickly," Sora explained.
"They're people who recognize their state and take necessary rest."
Hiyori said gently. "Kaito-kun, today is a day you can't recover. That's okay."
"But everyone is trying hard," Kaito resisted.
"Everyone has days they can't recover," Sora answered. "They're just not visible."
"On social media, you only see energetic days. Hard days aren't posted."
Hiyori nodded. "The comparison trap. Comparing others' best days with your worst days."
Kaito thought a little. "So I don't have to do anything today?"
"Not 'don't have to do anything,'" Sora corrected. "Today, resting is your job."
"Rest is also an important activity."
Hiyori suggested. "How about self-care? Taking care of yourself."
"Self-care?"
"Listen to favorite music, drink warm beverages, sleep well," Hiyori enumerated.
"Actions that tell your mind and body 'it's okay.'"
Sora supplemented. "What you need to recover is not forcing yourself."
"It's being kind to yourself."
Kaito said quietly. "But what if I can't recover tomorrow either?"
"That's okay too," Hiyori answered. "Recovery has its own pace for each person."
Sora added. "However, if it continues long, consulting a specialist is also important."
"Mental unwellness is like a cold. Sometimes a doctor is needed."
Kaito laughed a little. "I feel a bit lighter."
"That's the first step," Hiyori smiled.
Sora said finally. "Allowing days you can't recover is true strength."
"Being harsh on yourself alone is not growth."
Kaito nodded. "Today, I'll rest."
Hiyori and Sora watched over him. It's okay to have days you can't recover. Acknowledging that is preparation for the next step.
Outside the window, clouds drifted by. There are sunny days and cloudy days. That's natural.
