"Same thing again."

Kaito was holding his head in the club room.

"What's wrong?" Hiyori asked gently.

"I fought with a friend again. The same pattern as always," Kaito answered.

Sora was observing. "What do you mean by the same?"

"I say something, they go silent, things get awkward..." Kaito explained.

Hiyori thought. "Specifically?"

"I try to make a joke, but end up hurting them. I keep repeating it."

Sora opened her notebook. "Pattern repetition."

"Why?" Kaito said painfully. "I know it, but I do the same thing again."

Hiyori said quietly. "Humans are learning creatures. But we're also creatures of habit."

"Habit?"

Sora explained. "There's a concept called cognitive schema. Patterns of thinking and behavior formed from experience."

"The pattern is fixed?" Kaito asked.

"Yes. Once formed, you unconsciously repeat it."

Hiyori supplemented. "Especially under stress, you tend to take familiar actions over new ones."

Kaito thought. "Then how can I change it?"

Sora answered quietly. "First, notice the pattern."

"Just noticing is enough?"

"As a first step, it's very important," Hiyori said.

Sora drew a diagram on the whiteboard. "Behavior cycle: situation → thought → emotion → action → result."

"You need to change somewhere in this cycle."

Kaito stared. "Specifically?"

Hiyori asked. "Before making a joke, how do you feel?"

"Um... I want to liven things up," Kaito answered.

"Anything else?" Sora probed.

Kaito thought deeply. "Also, I'm afraid of silence. I panic thinking I have to say something."

"That might be the core," Sora pointed out.

"Anxiety about silence?"

"That anxiety produces inappropriate remarks," Hiyori explained. "Anxiety → panic → inappropriate joke → awkwardness → regret."

Kaito was surprised. "That's exactly the cycle."

Sora continued. "To break the cycle, you need to make a different choice somewhere."

"Like what?"

Hiyori suggested. "Try accepting silence. Don't force yourself to fill it."

"But that's scary," Kaito said honestly.

"It's scary at first," Sora acknowledged. "But to create a new pattern, you need to experience discomfort."

Kaito took a deep breath. "Okay. Next time, I'll try enduring silence."

"Good resolution," Hiyori smiled. "But don't expect perfection."

"Perfection?"

Sora explained. "Patterns don't change immediately. They change gradually through repetition."

"It's okay to fail?" Kaito asked.

"Rather, failure is a learning opportunity," Hiyori answered.

Sora added. "What's important is reflection after failure. What happened, what to change next time."

Kaito wrote in his notebook. "Pattern recognition → conscious choice → reflection → adjustment."

"Good summary," Sora acknowledged.

Hiyori asked. "Do you understand why you repeat the same worries?"

"Because the pattern is fixed. But if I notice, I can change it," Kaito answered.

Sora nodded. "Change might be slow. But it's definitely possible."

Kaito looked out the window. "Until now, I was blaming myself. Why don't I learn?"

"Self-criticism hinders change," Hiyori said gently.

"Instead, have curiosity," Sora added. "Observe with interest why this pattern occurs."

Kaito smiled. "Curiosity. I feel like I can do that."

Hiyori said. "Changing patterns takes time. Don't rush."

"But I won't give up," Kaito resolved.

Sora said quietly. "Repeating the same worries is human nature. But understanding it and gradually changing it is also human capability."

The three sat quietly. Understanding patterns is the beginning of change. Kaito took the first step of a long journey.
