"Is being alone lonely?"

Sora asked Mira. In a corner of the library, Leo was also sitting with them.

Mira thought a bit and wrote, "Sometimes. But I'm used to it."

Leo showed interest. "Loneliness and isolation are different."

"Different?" Sora asked.

"Isolation is an objective state. Being alone. Loneliness is a subjective feeling. Feeling no connection."

Mira nodded and wrote, "Feel lonely even in a crowd."

Sora understood. "You can be lonely even with people around."

"Yes," Leo explained. "Psychology distinguishes 'social loneliness' and 'emotional loneliness.'"

"Social loneliness is lack of social network. Emotional loneliness is lack of intimate relationships."

Mira wrote, "I have emotional loneliness."

Sora asked gently, "Do you want intimate relationships?"

After slight hesitation, Mira wrote, "I want them. But I'm scared."

"Scared of what?"

"Being hurt. Being rejected."

Leo said quietly, "I understand that. Intimacy involves risk."

Sora thought. "But loneliness is also painful, right?"

"It's a dilemma," Leo acknowledged. "Wanting connection but not wanting to be hurt."

Mira wrote on a new page, "Is loneliness bad?"

Sora answered, "Not necessarily. Lonely time can also be an opportunity to deepen self-understanding."

Leo supplemented. "A psychological process called introspection. By facing yourself alone, self-awareness increases."

Mira showed interest.

"People who fear loneliness avoid facing themselves," Leo explained. "By always being with someone, they're escaping from self."

Sora nodded. "Facing loneliness is facing yourself."

Mira wrote, "What to do in loneliness?"

"Observe your own emotions. Reconsider values. Think about what you really want to do," Sora answered.

Leo added, "It also suits creative activities. Many artists and thinkers created works in solitude."

Mira smiled and wrote, "Time to draw."

"Yes," Sora acknowledged. "For Mira, loneliness is also time for creation."

Leo asked, "But loneliness is sometimes painful, right?"

Mira nodded.

"That's also natural," Leo said. "Humans are social animals. We need connection."

Sora explained. "Loneliness is a signal informing us that social connection is lacking. Just as hunger signals the need for food."

"Feeling loneliness is a normal reaction."

Mira wrote, "Don't ignore the signal, respond to it."

"Exactly," Leo nodded. "When you feel lonely, how do you respond?"

Sora thought. "Contact someone. Join a community. But..."

"But?"

"I think quality over quantity. Rather than increasing superficial connections, having one deep connection."

Leo agreed. "Research shows this too. Having a few intimate relationships eases loneliness."

Mira stared at Leo and Sora. Then wrote, "Not lonely now."

Sora smiled. "We're happy too."

Leo said, "The strength to face loneliness. That's being able to be alone."

"But also being able to seek connection when needed," Sora added.

Mira wrote, "Balance."

"Yes. Time alone and time with people. Both are necessary."

Sora thought. "Fearing loneliness too much becomes dependence. Immersing too much in loneliness becomes isolation."

Leo nodded. "Healthy loneliness is chosen loneliness. Not forced loneliness."

Mira wrote, "Am I choosing?"

"What do you think?" Sora asked back.

Mira pondered. Then wrote, "Half choosing. Half running away scared."

"An honest answer," Leo acknowledged.

Sora said gently, "That honesty is the first step."

Mira continued writing. "Little by little, facing the fear."

"That's courage," Leo said. "The strength to face loneliness and the courage to seek connection. Both are necessary."

Sora wrote in her notebook. "Befriending your weak self. That's also accepting your lonely self."

Mira smiled. "Can be alone. But not alone."

Leo nodded. "That's a healthy way of being."

The three sat quietly. Accepting loneliness as part of yourself. That was true strength.
