"This place is calming."

Sora said at the window seat in the library. It was raining outside.

Mira nodded quietly. She was often at this seat.

Hiyori brought three cups of tea. "I like this place too."

"Why is it so calming here?" Sora wondered.

"Psychological safety," Mira said softly.

Hiyori smiled. "That's right. A place where we feel psychologically safe."

Sora became interested. "What exactly is psychological safety?"

"Feeling accepted," Hiyori explained. "Not criticized, not attacked. That sense of security."

"Because the library is quiet?"

"That's not all," Hiyori continued. "Physical quietness matters, but there are deeper elements."

Mira wrote in her notebook. "Not judged"

"Yes. People fear being judged," Hiyori said. "So a space without judgment becomes a psychological refuge."

Sora looked out the window. "Home should be like that too, but..."

"Ideally, yes," Hiyori said gently. "But reality is complex."

"My home," Sora said quietly, "always has expectations and evaluations. Grades, career paths, everything feels monitored."

Mira nodded empathetically.

"That's why you come here," Hiyori understood.

"How do you create a safe place?" Sora asked.

Hiyori thought. "First, know what 'safety' means for you."

"Specifically?"

"Some people need quietness, others feel calm with conversation around them. Some prefer solitude, others need someone nearby."

Mira wrote. "Know your own traits"

"Exactly," Hiyori acknowledged. "Self-understanding is the first step."

Sora drank her tea. "For me, I like quiet places, with few people, where there's an escape."

"Escape?"

"The option to leave anytime," Sora explained. "I don't like feeling trapped."

Hiyori nodded. "A sense of control. The feeling that you can control your environment."

"That's part of psychological safety too?"

"A very important element," Hiyori answered. "Predictability and sense of control are foundations of security."

Mira wrote again. "But perfect places don't exist"

"Exactly," Hiyori said. "That's why having multiple places is important."

"Multiple?" Sora asked.

"Library, club room, café, park. With several options, if one doesn't work, you have others."

Sora understood. "Like risk diversification."

"Good metaphor," Hiyori laughed. "Mental health needs diversified investment too."

Mira said quietly. "People can also become safe places."

Both looked surprised. It was rare for Mira to speak up.

"People?" Sora asked.

Mira nodded. "With someone you trust, you feel safe regardless of location."

Hiyori said with a moved expression, "That's a deep insight. It's the 'secure base' in attachment theory."

"Secure base?"

"A child uses the mother as a secure base to explore the world. Adults are the same. With someone trustworthy, you gain courage to try new things."

Sora thought. "This library feels safer because you and Mira are here."

"That makes me happy," Hiyori smiled.

Mira wrote. "Become secure bases for each other"

"Yes. Relationships are mutual," Hiyori said. "We also receive safety from all of you."

The sound of rain echoed gently.

Sora said, "Creating a safe place is also my own responsibility."

"Yes," Hiyori acknowledged. "Choose your environment, choose people, sometimes create it yourself."

"Sounds difficult."

"But you can do it gradually," Hiyori encouraged. "If you feel safe in this place today, that's the first step."

Mira smiled quietly.

Sora wrote in her notebook. "Safe places: self-understanding, environment selection, trust relationships"

"Perfect summary," Hiyori said.

The three quietly drank their tea. This moment was also one small piece of safety. And cherishing that safety is how to protect mental health, Sora learned.
